Information for authors

Thank you for submitting an abstract to OER14. Please register for the conference as soon as possible. Early bird rates are available until 28 February 2014, but we are asking presenters to book by 18 February to aid the organising committee.

provisional programme has been published, and a list of posters provided. You can check when your presentation, lightning talk, workshop or fringe has been scheduled to take place, and the time and location for the poster session. The final version of the programme will be published at the end of February.

Papers for presentation, lightening talk, workshop or poster

If your proposal has been accepted for a presentation, lightning talk, workshop or poster, short papers should be submitted by 28 February 2014. Guidelines on paper submission and templates can be found below. Short papers will be published online as part of the conference proceedings. A small number of papers will be selected for further development and inclusion in a special issue of the Journal of Interactive Media in Education (JIME).

Posters can be physical or digital and digital posters should be submitted online by 20 April 2014. Further guidelines on poster submission are available.

Short papers

For all contributions regardless of format you have the option of submitting a short paper to be included in the conference proceedings. Short papers (to a maximum of 2,500 words, not including references) can be uploaded to accompany your abstract.

Templates are available to download in docrtf and odt formats. If possible please use the doc or rtf format as these templates have preserved the styles better. When you upload your document please retain the format (docrtf or odt) to enable us to present your paper in multiple formats as a part of the programme (please do not use pdf).

A small number of short papers will be selected as worthy of being further developed through a separate review process and authors will be invited to produce full-length submissions for inclusion in a special issue of the Journal of Interactive Media in Education (JIME). The timetable for submission to JIME will be agreed after the conference.

Physical poster guidelines

Each physical poster will be displayed on a board and should be A0 in size (1189 x 841 mm).

Images & Logos should be prepared at a minimum 150dpi at 100% size. Unless you have a VERY big printer you will need to get the poster professionally printed. Most commercial printers will be able to print an inkjet poster at A0.

You can create A0 posters in Powerpoint (using the page size above) but the preferred tools would be Adobe Photoshop/illustrator/Indesign. You can download an open source equivalent to Photoshop from here for free.

– Ensure that you output your final version as a PDF for printing.

– Please upload a pdf version of your poster to the OER14 paper submission area for inclusion in the conference proceedings.

Digital posters guidelines

All digital posters will be displayed on a large screen. Each poster will be displayed for 3 minutes each and so any animated items within the poster should be completed within the 3 minutes. The digital posters should be produced and submitted as a Powerpoint file.

– Prepare your Powerpoint presentation for a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 (or an on screen show of 16:9).

– Embed all media elements into the Powerpoint presentation.

– Ensure the slideshow is setup as self running.

– Save the file as a .pptx file and submit to the OER14 paper submission area.
